Joy Mackey

The very essence of paint and applying it is magical; I love mark making with drips and scraped areas juxtaposed with flatter areas of colour.

Layers of shapes, patterns and textures are as important in my work as are the layers of meaning. My paintings are built up over time through a process of combining intuitive mark making, refining and removing paint. I am drawn to layers of meaning and complex visual interest in loosely painted work alive with energy.
